These delicious dumplings are perfect for intermediate to advanced cooks looking for a great treat.

Syrup
 2 cups Water
 2 cups Sugar
 0.50 tsp Cinnamon, ground
 0.50 tsp Cloves, ground
 0.50 cup Butter
Dough
 2 cups Flour, sifted
 1 tsp Salt
 1 tbsp Baking Powder
 2 tbsp Sugar
 0.50 cup Shortening
 0.75 cup Milk
Filling
 4 cups Apples, peeled and grated
 1 cup Cranberries, cooked and drained
 1 tsp Fresh Ginger, grated
 0.50 cup Walnuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 425F.

Prepare Dough

Sift the dough's dry ingredients together.

Cut in the shortening.

Gradually add the milk while stirring the mixture.
Add a little more flour, if needed to make a soft dough.

Roll the dough on a floured surface, to make an 18 x 12 rectangle.

Prepare and Apply Filling

Combine the apples, cranberries, ginger and walnuts, then spread evenly over the dough.

Roll this up like a jelly roll, lengthwise.

Cut the roll into 18 one-inch thick pieces.

Place the pieces cut side up in a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan.

Remove from heat and stir in the butter.

Pour the hot syrup over the rolls and then bake for 40 minutes.
