Tamanend Park Herb Garden

Tamanend Park Herb Gardening Club

Welcome to the Tamanend Park Herb Gardening Club website. We are a not-for-profit organization operated for the purpose of building community and education in plant care and herbal use. We maintain a garden next to the farm house in Tamanend Park, Southampton.

Each year on the weekend following Mother's Day, we hold a plant and crafts sale at the Tamanend Park Farm House to raise funds for club educational programs and to support our Horticultural Scholarship Progam. Some of the plants sold at the annual sale are purchased from local growers, and the rest of the plants are donated by members of the club. We love seeing our plant babies go to a good home and we’re happy to spend time to provide guidance on raising the plants.

The Scholarship program started in 1985 with a small stipend and has grown in value and number of students. The selected students are awarded in Fall.

Started by four Upper Southampton residents in 1981, The Tamanend Park Herb Gardening Club was chartered in 1983 and has grown over the years to include members throughout the region. Focusing on building community and education in plant care and herbal use, the club maintains an herb garden, designed by stained-glass artist Charles Moore, next to the farm house in Tamanend Park.

The herb garden features various plant specimens for medicinal, culinary, fragrance and decoration purposes. We need volunteers for helping maintain the garden. Members of the club are usually present Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM, mid-spring through mid-fall, to educate visitors in cultivating and enjoying herbs.

On the third Wednesday of each month, members meet at the Tamanend Park farmhouse to share herbal knowledge and plan club activities. A brief business meeting begins at 7:00 PM, followed a guest speaker or group activity. Come to a meeting or an event to join our community.
